Former MLB All-Star Jose Canseco will try out with the Quintana Roo Tigers of the Mexican League, the team announced Sunday.

"Back in baseball I knew I would play this year you just gotta believe in your dreams," Canseco wrote Sunday on Twitter. "Leave on redeye tonite to start spring training with AAA quintana roo tigers tomorrow . TEam won league championship last year."

Canseco, 47, last played in the majors for the Chicago White Sox in 2001.

The Mexican League is part of the MLB's minor league system at the Triple-A level, but its teams are not affiliated with individual major league clubs. The defending champion Tigers play in Cancun.

Tigers president Cuauhtemoc Rodriguez said Canseco has not signed a contract.

Canseco, the 1988 AL MVP, played for seven teams in his 17-year career and hit 462 homer runs. In 2005, he admitted to using anabolic steroids and later published a book in which he said 85 percent of major league players used banned substances.

I think he's been hit on the head by too many homeruns.

  3. Pipedreams, Mr. Canseco!

While I admire your drive and adamancy, I've seen too many
fighters that were well beyond their primes give in to their
lust for the glories and quests of the past.

There is only one direction in such a lust. It is not one that
will enhance your (already questionable) record(s) or
    reputation.
