Bench Warmer
Upper Deck Covers All the Bases with its 2008 Baseball Heroes Launch

Three ‘Heroes’ memorabilia cards and one autographed ‘Heroes’ card per box highlight this extraordinary baseball effort!

North Las Vegas, NV (August 11, 2008) – With a checklist that includes 200 of the most popular rookies, veterans and legends who have ever graced the baseball diamond, Upper Deck’s 2008 Baseball Heroes release is truly one for the ages. A star-studded lineup is further complimented by the popular “Baseball Heroes” design and an assortment of “Heroes” memorabilia and autographed cards that will no doubt leave collectors in awe.

With the MLB season now coming down to its final month of the regular-season, who would have guessed that the Tampa Bay Rays would be outdistancing the Red Sox and Yankees in the vaunted A.L. East or that both Chicago clubs (Cubs and White Sox) would be leading their respective divisions?

“Since the ‘90s, ‘Baseball Heroes’ has been one of Upper Deck’s most popular sets so we’re very excited about this year’s launch,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s senior brand manager. “We’ve added some of the best names in baseball – past and present – so that collectors can find autographed and memorabilia cards of many of baseball greatest players ever.”

The outstanding autographed lineup includes such up-and-comers as Josh Hamilton and Ian Kennedy, along with proven vets like Ken Griffey Jr., John Lackey, Derek Jeter, Alfonso Soriano, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Matt Kemp. It also sports the likes of Hall-of-Famers such as Carl Yastrzemski, Johnny Bench, Ernie Banks, Robin Yount, Ozzie Smith and Bob Gibson. The Jersey Memorabilia array is second to none: Jermaine Dye, David Ortiz, Mariano Rivera, CC Sabathia, Grady Sizemore and Chase Utley headline some current stars, while Joe DiMaggio, Rod Carew, Roberto Clemente and Tony Gwynn add sizzle to the jaw-dropping list of legends.

The 200-card, base-level set includes 175 “Heroes” cards, along with 10 Dual Heroes, 10 Triple Heroes and five Quad Heroes cards. But that’s where the fun just gets started. In addition, this year’s launch includes “Heroes Parallels” (numbered to 300 or less), averaging one per pack; “Heroes Autographs” (numbered to 150 or less), averaging one per box; and “Heroes Memorabilia” cards (single, dual, triple and quad versions, numbered to 200 or less), packing out at a ratio averaging three per box.

Other interesting ingredients inside this year’s effort of Upper Deck’s Baseball Heroes set are the super-rare “Signs of History” Presidential Cut-Signature Exchange cards, as well as the Yankee Stadium Legacy memorabilia and autographed buyback cards. There truly is something for every baseball fan in this year’s release.

Upper Deck’s 2008 Baseball Heroes carries a suggested retail price of $4.99 per eight-card pack with 24 packs per box. The product is available in stores now.
